Enhancing Entrepreneurship in SME Development and Export Consortia Print


This program is one of the four international training courses commissioned by TICA for MI to organize in 2009.  The course is designed a four-week for participants from a wide range of countries in South Asia and South East Asia  (including GMS countries), Africa States, countries of the Caribbean and countries of the Pacific Islands Forum. The program aims at enhancing knowledge and skills in developing and sustaining SME, managing business clusters and transnational value chains.
Given the diverse backgrounds and expertise possessed by all participants, the course emphasizes introducing the different levels and dimensions of various types of enterprises, the different types of stakeholders and the frameworks employed by governments in creating enabling environment for enterprise development, providing concept of enterprise development (business development and financial services, productivity and competitiveness, and value chains), business clusters, and business-to-business networks, offering opportunities to experience various entrepreneurship styles and strategies of SMEs through structural learning visits to business enterprises and business development service organization in Thailand, and providing a forum for sharing and comparing experiences from different countries within a sub-region and for deepening and extending participants understanding of enterprise development in national and regional contexts.

"MI and TICA launches Leadership in Competitive Enterprises under Thailand Technical Cooperation Program"
 

MI in collaboration with Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency (TICA) launched an international training course on Leadership in Competitive Enterprises on June 22, 2009 at MI Residential Training Center in Khon Kaen.  Twenty-six middle and senior government officials from developing countries in Africa, Asia and  Pacific Islands join the program. By attending this program, the participants are expected to have a better understanding of the concepts of leadership, enhanced knowledge of methods to managing changes and development in the fast changing competitive environment.

 

Mr. Voravut Tomon, Director of Human Resource Development Program of TICA presided over the opening ceremony.

Leadership in Competitive Enterprises 22 Jun–17 Jul 2009 Print


This program is one of the four international training courses commissioned by TICA for MI to organize in 2009.  The course is designed a four-week for participants from a wide range of countries in South Asia and South East Asia  (including GMS countries), Africa States, countries of the Caribbean and countries of the Pacific Islands Forum. The program aims at enhancing the understanding managers of leadership and managerial skill requirements that enable them to interact effectively within the competitive global market. Given the diverse backgrounds and expertise possessed by all participants, the course emphasizes sharing of experience and group exercises, as well as visiting selected Thai enterprises in different sectors and of varying scale, to facilitate their learning through the lessons from Thailand. The program concludes with a final assignment that allows participants to combine all learning into their own projects in which further investigation could be carried out upon return to their own countries.

Effective Project Management for Sustainable Development in the Greater Mekong Sub-region Print


The Effective Project Management for Sustainable Development learning program, under Rural Development and Project Management thematic area, is designed to develop capacity for those involved in development projects to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate national, sub-regional and transboundary development projects that address issues relevant to the GMS. The course equips participants with knowledge and practical experience on the application of Project Cycle Management in accordance with international project management standards and gender perspective. It emphasizes sharing experiences and lessons learned about project management in their home countries, conducting analytical assessment of regional emerging issues and trends, analyzing the components of project cycle management, and formulating project proposals. The program also aims to promote communication, cooperation and trust among professionals from across the GMS.  

 
Partial Scholarship Available

Mekong Institute will provide four (4) partial Scholarships to each GMS country.

 Call for Papers

 

The Review of Development and Cooperation (RDC) is a refereed journal published once a year by Mekong Institute and independently supported by an international editorial board. The journal welcomes manuscripts in the fields of growth and development that could be of interest to academics, policy makers, planners, and researchers. Although its focus is on the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), contributions from similar groups (such as East Asia, South Asia, etc.) seeking to promote closer economic ties and development with transborder implications and papers that deal with sub-regional economic cooperation as means to facilitate sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction are also considered. Contributions can cover a broad range of issues from applied empirical research using primary and/or secondary data to policy analysis that bear upon critical development issues.

2009-2010 MI Sub-regional Research Cycle Print

 

The Mekong Institute is calling for participants to the 2009-2010 MI Sub-regional Research Cycle which will begin on May 25, 2009 via the Regional Research Development and Methodology Training Course which is the first phase of the research cycle. The research cycle is a 10-month program offered annually by Mekong Institute and consists of classroom training, research project implementation, and research results presentation. The training sessions are usually held at MI Residential Training Center, Mekong Institute, Khon Kaen, Thailand while research projects are undertaken in the participant’s home country.

 

As a complementary advantage, the program promotes collaborative research among the GMS researchers through the actual implementation of sub-regional researches during the 10-month research cycle.
