The Mekong Forum is Mekong Institute’s annual event that brings together policymakers and government officers, members of the academe, and business and civil society and development experts and professionals to discuss relevant and timely issues concerning the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). It engages and provides a platform for interaction, dialogue and networking of multiple stakeholders working together to advance the development agenda of the region.

It began as a biennial event in 2011 before being made into a yearly MI gathering in 2015. To date, MI has organized five Mekong Forums featuring the following themes/topics:

  • 2011: Prospects for human resource development and capacity building in regional cooperation and integration
  • 2013: Inclusive and equitable growth in the Greater Mekong Subregion
  • 2015: Modernizing the GMS towards the Post-AEC 2015
  • 2016: Sharing responsibility for common prosperity
  • 2017: New Geo-economics and how it shapes the future of the GMS

 

 

 

The Mekong Forum offers several sessions with dynamic presentations key actors and leading experts in development and development cooperation, trade and business actively working in the GMS and beyond. Participants can expect to gain action-oriented ideas and insights on initiatives geared at regional development, and a network of professionals engaged in/and or knowledgeable in development cooperation and innovations.

Members of the GMS countries, development practitioners, and executives or senior officials of development organizations especially those engaged at the regional (GMS/ASEAN) level are highly encouraged to join.

It is also open to those in the government sector, non-government and civil society, academic and research and/or training institutions, development organizations and other support agencies within the region.

Joining the Forum is free. However, you are requested to pay for your own domestic and/or international travel expenses. MI will only shoulder the expenses of invited speakers and panelists.

Meals (2 coffee breaks and lunch) are provided for free on the day of the forum as well as during the Reception Dinner.

Mekong Forum 2018 will be held at Avani Khon Kaen Hotel & Convention Centre, Khon Kaen, Thailand. Participants (except invited speakers and panelists) are expected to arrange your own flights/transport to and from Khon Kaen, as well as accommodation.

MI will provide airport pick-up for guests and participants staying at hotels listed in this welcome pack.

A Reception Dinner will be held the day before the forum. Guests may come in smart casual attire or in your national costume. Please confirm with the Forum Secretariat if you are joining the Reception Dinner.
