The Hatinh Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, Fruits and Vegetables Research Institute, and the Mekong Institute jointly organized a localized training on "Safe Vegetable Production through VietGAP" at the National Agricultural Extension Center in Hatinh Province on October 14-16, 2014. Thirty provincial agricultural extension workers and farmer-leaders from the province attended the training course, the aim of which is to improve the participants' understanding of VietGAP in promoting quality and safety in vegetable produce. Serving as trainers to this training course are the four Vietnamese alumni of the Mekong Institute training-of- trainers (TOT) course on GAP who developed the training package for this course.
Mr. Dang Tran Phong, the Vice Chairman of Can Loc District People's Committee, and Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hieu, the Head of the Quality of Fruits and Vegetable Department at the Fruits and Vegetables Research Institute welcomed all the participants. In his opening remarks, Mr. Dang Tran Phoung emphasized the importance of VietGAP standards in Vietnam's efforts to promote safe food production and sustainable resource management. He hopes that the agricultural extension workers who attended the training are able to transfer their knowledge and skills to farmers and continue to support and encourage farmers to apply the principles of Good Agricultural Practice (VietGAP) in their farms.
