Mekong Institute is an intergovernmental organization owned and operated by the six Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) countries it serves. MI fosters regional cooperation and connectivity by working with governments, development partners, and organizations to deliver standardized and customized learning programs, workshops, seminars, policy dialogues and consultations, as well as research and development projects.
Currently, MI programs and activities focus on three main thematic areas: Agricultural Development and Commercialization, Trade and Investment Facilitation, and Innovation and Technological Connectivity. Under these, MI collaborates with a range of development partners including Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, P.R. China, the European Union, the German Agency for International Cooperation, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Thailand International Cooperation Agency, United States Agency for International Development, International Development Research Centre, Food and Agriculture Organization, and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.
On trade and investment facilitation, MI’s goals and strategies support the GMS Cooperation Program and the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), emphasizing enhanced physical connectivity in the GMS economic corridors and the realization of the GMS/AEC targets of a single market and production base, equitable growth, and sustainable resource management.
MI’s Trade and Investment Facilitation (TIF) Department is implementing capacity development projects in GMS countries. This includes Sustainable Smart Tourism, SEZ Development, Upgrading Border Facilitation for Trade and Logistics Development, Green Freight and Logistic Development, E-commerce, regional trade and investment forums, among others. The capacity development activities under these projects involve training programs, workshops, seminars, structured learning visits, policy and action research studies across GMS countries.
As such, MI is seeking the services of a Program Coordinator to support the development and delivery of these activities and outputs. Under the supervision of the TIF Director, the Program Coordinator will be contracted for one year but he/she will be subject to a three-month probation at the onset. The full-time position will be based in Khon Kaen, Thailand.
Main Deliverables, Responsibilities and Tasks
a) Assist the team in designing and developing capacity building programs (workshops, training course, seminar, action research, among others)
b) Coordinate with the Director or team leader on curriculum preparation and administration (e.g., contracting content providers, processing payment requests, supervising contract deliverables)
c) Prepare and release invitations, manuals, and advanced program materials related to MI trainings and other activities
d) In coordination with course trainers and resource persons, collate and distribute resource materials to course participants
e) Co-facilitate learning program sessions, field visits, and/or action research activities
f) Document and disseminate program proceeding documents such as workshop reports, minutes of the meeting to participants and partner organizations
g) Filing of lecture notes, readings, and course documents in official MI archives and registries
h) Assist the Director or team leader in conducting research
i) Support the planning, implementation and evaluation of workshops, conferences, and other official MI activities and events, as assigned
j) Draft reports and complete post-training activities according to MI guidelines and standards, as well as the requirements of development partners.
k) Perform other related tasks as assigned by the MI Executive Director and TIF Director
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
a) A master’s degree in economics, public administration, international development or any field in the social sciences
b) Strong analytical skills and demonstrated interests in learning and self-improvement
c) Advanced computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Package, Microsoft Project)
d) Fluency in written and spoken English
e) Ability to work well in a team
f) Proficient in conducting secondary research
g) At least two years’ experience in international development, with proficiency in the facilitation of trainings, research activities, policy development, and monitoring and evaluation projects
