Promoting Regional Energy Connectivity: Professional Training Program on GMS Power Equipment Operation & Maintenance and Safety Management

Mekong Institute (MI), in cooperation with China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. (CSG)/Yunnan Power Grid Co., Ltd. (YNPG), organized a professional training on “GMS Power Equipment Operation & Maintenance and Safety Management” last September 11-22, 2017.

The training, held in YNPG Baiyun Training Centre, Kunming, China, brought together 31 technicians or middle management involved in power grid equipment operation & maintenance or safety management from national energy authorities and power utilities. The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Watcharas Leelawath, MI Executive Director and Mr. Si Shuming, Vice President of YNPG.

Participants learned about advanced power technology and the power equipment operation & maintenance and safety management experience of CSG. In addition to the in-classroom activities, a four-day structured learning visit was also organized to expose participants to the quality and performance of China’s power equipment. The sites visited were the Training and Evaluation Center of YNPG, Operation Safety Body-feeling Training Base, ±500kV Yongren Convertor Station, Yunnan Kungong Power Investment Co., Ltd., Yunnan Electric Power Research Institute of YNPG, and the 110kV Huacheng 3C Substation.

This professional training program is part of MI’s continuing efforts to encourage greater collaboration in the power sector in the GMS by providing a platform for collaboration and people-to-people exchange.
